About AI Table Extraction

Use AI Table Extraction when a PDF table needs to become editable spreadsheet cells and ordinary browser extraction cannot recognize its layout.

What is AI Table Extraction?

AI Table Extraction turns a recognizable PDF table into editable spreadsheet cells. It first tries browser-local extraction and can use an optional AI fallback when table spacing is difficult for simple parsing.

When this tool helps

  • Turn a recognizable report table into a workbook.
  • Try local extraction first for a text-based table.
  • Use the optional AI fallback for tables whose spacing is difficult for simple extraction.

What happens to your file?

The browser attempts local table extraction. If you choose AI fallback, bounded extracted text is sent to the configured AI provider; the original PDF is not sent to that endpoint.

Features in this tool

  • Try local extraction without AI first.
  • Use AI fallback only when it is configured and selected.
  • Download editable XLSX rows rather than a screenshot of the table.

Common problems and solutions

  • No local table is found: Check that the PDF has selectable text and consistent columns, or run OCR PDF before trying again.
  • AI cells are wrong: Compare headers, totals, dates, and amounts with the source before using the workbook.
  • The result is not a complete table: Decorative layouts and merged cells can hide boundaries; correct the workbook manually or use PDF to Excel for a simpler table.

Tips and limitations

  • Upload a PDF up to 20 MB; the tool reads at most the first 30 pages and the AI fallback receives up to 100,000 extracted characters.
  • Local extraction runs first and does not require AI. A scanned table needs OCR before local extraction can use its text.
  • AI-generated cells may be wrong; compare headers, totals, and important values with the source.

Frequently asked about AI Table Extraction

Is the spreadsheet just a screenshot?

No. The output contains editable rows and cells.

Does AI always find a table?

No. It may miss boundaries or values, so review the workbook against the PDF.

Can I use this on a scan?

Run OCR PDF first, then check whether the recognized text has a usable table structure.
